I have a dream. I dream that a Washington brewery will finally climb into clouds of beer lore. That a Washington brewery will find the perfect balance of capacity, craft, and artisanship to be mentioned in the same breath as Deschutes, The Bruery, 3 Floyds, Founders, and Russian River. I want my global beer friends to look upon my Washington beer access with the envy of a younger sibling watching their older sibling enjoy the benefits of being a few years older and wiser.
WABL just sent out the list of beers
(PDF) at Cask Festival 2014
and it looks like there are some fantastic beers on offer from Ballard Breweries.
I just got word that next Saturday, March 8th, Populuxe is going to be blowing it out with a great-sounding party to celebrate their first anniversary. The party has something for all ages, live music, great food, and special beers. Basically a perfect Saturday outing.
A ton of Ballard breweries are participating in the Washington Beer Commission's 2014 WA Beer Open House
this Saturday, the 22nd, and from what I've seen our neighborhood breweries are going to have some great stuff on tap.
I made my way over to Brouwer's for the first of five Washington Hop Mob Triple IPA Roadhshow events and took some time to try all three of Ballard's breweries that are participating; Populuxe, Reuben's and Stoup.
My perfect beer involves wood in any capacity. For most of the craft beer world, great "wood" beers are barrel-aged beers. The variety of flavors that wood imparts on those beers is a marvel. But for something unique, in my mind, nothing beats the Rauchbier. The Rauchbier, which is German for "Smoke Beer" is a beer made with smoked malt. The malt is usually smoked with beechwood and in a good Rauchbier the smoke will prominently present itself in the nose and the overall flavor of the beer. It's a unique experience and a fantastic beer.
If you're looking to add a little bit of Ballard craft beer to your romance, you're in luck this week. Hale's is holding a brewmaster's dinner
with a Valentine theme. The dinner includes "A candlelit four course dinner & ale pairing followed by an evening of music & dancing."
According to this tweet and their website, Hilliard's has added Wednesday to their open days. They'll now be open 3PM to 11PM on Wednesdays through Fridays.
always looks like one of the best Washington Beer events out there but for a variety of reasons I haven't ever been able to make it. Unfortunately this year is no different (I'll be in India). But for those in town it seems like a perfect way to kick off Super Bowl weekend. Plus, Ballard breweries are well represented.
Welcome to the Ballard Beer Blog, a blog about the people, breweries, and most importantly, beer in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. You can read a bit more background about the blog on the About page but I also wanted to take a second to introduce things here.
IPA lovers rejoice. According to the Washington Beer Blog, Reuben's, Populuxe and Stoup will take part in the Washington Hop Mob Triple IPA Roadshow
. What exactly is that? It's a series of events around the city that will be showcasing the hoppiest of hoppy beers from breweries around Seattle.
